The Randolph Project
I call this my Urban Cabin project—set not “Up North,” but on a hilltop in Downtown Northville. This young family moved into an iconic log cabin and wanted to make it their own, blending personal style with a fresh, updated feel. I envisioned Scandinavian-inspired touches that would brighten the home while honoring its stunning wood logs.
The kitchen, already full of potential, was transformed by painting the existing cabinetry a crisp white, adding round knobs for a hint of mid-century flair, and replacing the outdated backsplash with organic zellige tile for texture and charm. Quartz floating shelves now display art and ceramic pottery made by the kids, adding a personal touch. The client’s favorite color, sage green (SW Coastal Plain), appears on the wooden-slat island, the hutch, and bentwood dining chairs—tying the space together beautifully.
We introduced modern yet cozy furnishings, turned the entrance into a welcoming spot for relaxing and entertaining, and updated lighting with playful chandeliers that nod to both mid-century and Scandinavian design. Now, when you step inside, you’re greeted by a vibrant gallery of family photos—capturing the warmth, joy, and character that define this Urban Cabin.
